“Crazy Rich Asians” is probably one of the best romantic comedies I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen a lot in my teen years. I finally got around to watching it last week with my sister and she loved it, as well.
It’s an almost Cinderella-type of movie, in which a 20 something year old travels with her boyfriend to his home country of Singapore to meet his family, only to realize they are insanely rich and they hate her.
It’s a sweet, funny, glamorous story, with charismatic characters and outlandish scenery. Singapore looks fantastic and now I desperately want to visit. The wedding scene in the church was so beautifully made, so I’m not going to be surprised if more western weddings will have barefoot brides from now. Visually, “Crazy Rich Asians” looks stunning, and the direction was on point.
The acting was solid, too. The two main characters (Constance Wu playing Rachel Chu and Henry Golding playing Nick Young) were perfectly cast. I also really enjoyed some of the side characters, like the best friend (funny Awkwafina) and the helpful cousin (Nico Santos), or the perfect Astrid (Gemma Chan). The dynamic between the mother-in-law (the amazing Michelle Yeoh) and Rachel was also fun to watch (and believable, except maybe the ending, but hey, it’s Hollywood and we all love a happy ending). Also, are all Asians this good looking? Damn!
Overall, I highly enjoyed “Crazy Rich Asians” and I can’t wait to see the sequel. I recommend you watch it, too, it’s a fun, easy to watch movie.
I agree. Rom coms aren’t usually my thing but this is easily one of the best I’ve ever seen. I’m glad you liked it too!
Yup. My sister also watched “To all the boys i’ve loved before” and said I should, too!
“Asian Ellen” (Awwkwafina’s character) was great. I kind of felt like she was really good but didn’t have enough to do in Ocean’s 8 so I loved seeing her here. Astrid’s husband was the biggest moron ever and I loved the wedding. I completely agree it was just a fun movie all around!
I agree on the Awkwafina part, she was really underused in Ocean’s 8, but was great in this one. Yup, Astrid’s husband was a moron…but a hot one. The shower scene? damn 🙂
YES that wedding scene! I actually teared up during it lol
It was so cool….with the water and her legs….
Lovely review! The cast was so great, especially Costance Wu. I thought she was so charming. Everything about the film was so much fun.
She was, yeah. Charming and funny, but not too goofy. Loved her!
