My top songs of 2018: yearly playlist

For the last 4 years I’ve had the habit of constantly adding songs I discover and love into a yearly playlist in Apple Music. It’s a time saver and I always have it ready to go when I want to listen to some music. It’s also a great way to revisit music I used to like if I ever run out of ideas.

This year’s taste in music was rather eclectic: some R&B (Childish Gambino, SZA, Jorja Smith, Cleo Sol), some Pop (Rita Ora, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande), and some Indie Rock (twenty one pilots, Imagine Dragons, Warpaint). Those are three main genres I usually navigate towards and my 2018 playlist is proof of that.

Looking at the list below, I see at least 3 Childish Gambino songs and more pop than I usual listen to (Rita Ora and Ariana Grande were definitely not in my previous playlists). I also have way less Indie Rock than I used to listen in the 2012-2015 period, but then again, The Maccabees are separated and I really didn’t like the new Arctic Monkeys album that came out this year, so that explains it. It was an OK year for music, but definitely not as great as 2015 or 2016, for example.

Before I tell you my top songs of 2018, I wanted to mention two things. One, you will find older songs in the playlist, and that’s because I usually add whatever I listen on repeat for at least 2-3 days, and if I discover an older song, then be it. Second, I debated if I should add the Romanian songs in it (I am Romanian), and in the end I decided to add some of them…just in case you are interested 🙂

So, here are my top songs for 2018. Let me know in the comments what are your top songs of the year!

  2. Awesome list of songs! I totally listen to new songs I’ve discovered on massive repeat too. Childish Gambino is amazing. There’s definitely some on here I haven’t heard of but will check out.
