I was pretty active in December, movie-wise, so I wanted to let you know about some of the things I saw last month (not all of them, but the highlights).
Aquaman [2018]
Aquaman was a good movie. A very good DC movie, a funny and visually appealing superhero movie, but an ok movie overall, looking back at 2018 and/or other superhero movies.
The Good: Jason Momoa (extremely charismatic in a I-don’t-give-a-fuck kind of way, and also extremely hot; he was amazing as Aquaman). Another strong point I have to point out is the visual aspect. It looked amazing on a 3D screen and I love the world building, especially the Hidden Sea and the Sicily part.
The Bad (or just meah): for me, it was the over the top dialogue and over the top close ups (cliche moments for superhero movies). Let’s just say there were quite of few eye rolling times, but overall it wasn’t that problematic.
I liked Aquaman and its main characters, but I’m going to be honest and say it wasn’t mindblowing for me and that I will remember it as a good movie and move on pretty quickly.
Sex and love around the world [2018]
This is a Netflix Documentary series made by Christiane Amanpour, a famous CNN reporter and journalist.
It offers very interesting view on love, sex, relationships, intimacy, marriage in different cities around the world: Tokyo, Shanghai, New Delhi, Berlin, Accre. It was fascinating to learn about the lack of sexual desire and intimacy in Tokyo, or about the patriarchy system in New Delhi and so on. I definitely recommend it.
Knightfall [2017]
Watched this after Christmas because i needed something easy, yet exciting. This ticked all the boxes. Historical drama, with high stakes, hot Templiers, forbidden love and murder plots. Recommend it for Reign fans, maybe even Vikings?!
Bandersnatch [2018]
Although I’m not a big Black Mirror fan (I’ve only watched one episode), I was intrigued by Bandersnatch, mostly because of the creators’ and Netflix’s spin on it- first interactive movie (most say in the world, but I have seen Mosaic almost a year ago and it had similar concept).
While watching the film, you are, indeed, enthralled by it. Mostly because you keep questioning your decisions and wondering what could have happened if you chose differently. Sometimes the movie takes you back to the same place, so you can do better. Sometimes it doesn’t. In the end, what I’ve noticed, is that there are no happy endings for Stefan, no matter what route you go on. Which can be a bit frustrating, in the end.
That being said, I enjoyed the movie and specifically the experience of it. Also, the Twitter reactions were golden, I laughed for half an hour afterwards. I recommend you try it, at least to see how it is to have to question your decisions all the time 🙂

Momoa makes Aquaman work. They really lean into his fun-loving and easy-going personality. It seems right up his alley.

I’ve liked Black Mirror when I watch it but I really have to be in the mood and its so unrelenting bleak I’m not surprised there’s not even an option for a happy ending. I’ve never made it through a season without having to take long breaks between episodes. The interactive element is fascinating though. How much fun would an interactive Avengers movie be? Although the audience for that is probably far too large to carry it off. A girl can dream 🙂
I really don’t think they could have found a better actor for Aquaman and not just because I think he’s adorable!

Yeah, Black Mirror is pretty bleak, but this movie was pretty entertaining. I don’t know if it would work for an Avengers movie, though….
I’m glad Bandersnatch worked for you, it’s currently my least favorite Black Mirror episode now. That format was not for me.
Yeah, I was expecting to divide people. Why didn’t you like it? was it the idea of choosing and not viewing as a whole or you just didn’t like the story?
