Since my return to movie blogging last year, I kept seeing Blind Spot challenges popping up every once in a while and I was always curious to see what is about, mostly because it always featured old movies I haven’t seen myself.
After a bit of research (and some Twitter questions) I found out what is it about and I signed up for the 2019 edition, because I love the idea of watching classic movies and number 1 titles that I haven’t gotten around to seeing.
To quote Sofia, who manages the challenge: “The Blind Spot Series is a movie challenge created by Ryan McNeil at The Matinee. The goal is to watch one movie a month, over the course of one year. These should be films that you believe are essential viewings for every movie fan: they can be classics, cult films, modern masterpieces.” More info about it here
That being said, here is my list for the Blind Spot Challenge 2019: in no particular order, inspired by my fellow bloggers and all movies I haven’t watched before.
- Cat on a hot tin roof (1958)
- 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
- The Royal Tenenbaums (2001)
- Network (1976)
- The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966)
- Seven Samurai (1954)
- Apocalypse Now (1979)
- Sunset Boulevard (1950)
- The Lives of Others (2006)
- Trainspotting (1996)
- L.A. Confidential (1997)
- Vertigo (1958)
I’m excited! Are you participating this year? What is on your list?
I have Network on my list this year too! I’ve seen a few of yours, I had both Vertigo and Sunset Boulevard on Blind Spot lists before and I LOVED the latter. Trainspotting is awesome, and I didn’t care for The Royal Tenenbaums but admittedly it’s one I need to rewatch because I think I might view it differently now.
Good luck!
Thanks! Your list is pretty cool, I wanted to add Dr. Strange, too. I saw Casablanca a long time ago, but I remember not being impressed by it. Good luck with your challenge!
You have some good ones on here! I might knick Network and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof for my list 🙂 I usually just drop every movie I can think of so my options are open otherwise I wind up changing them anyway. It’s a fun series though. I have a lot of fun doing it!
Yes, do it. I’ve had Cat on a Hot Tin Roof for ages on my list, I have to watch it this year! I can’t wait to go through them all, the challenge is cool
Oooh Trainspotting! That’s one of my all time favorite movies! Sunset Boulevard is so great, really good picks here!
Thanks, I can’t wait to get through them, I heard only good things about them, and some are classics!
The films on the list I haven’t seen are Network and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. I hope to do those films soon but everything else in the list I have seen as they all have something different to offer.
Yes, it’s a pretty diverse list, I wanted to tackle the big ones that I missed (2001, Rebel without a cause), and also try something different than what I normally go for (Trainspotting, royal tenenbaums, etc). Thanks for dropping by!
So happy to see you joining the Blindspot challenge! It looks like you have some great picks. Network is one of my all-time faves. Hope you have a great movie-watching year ahead!
Thanks, I can’t wait to start it soon. I don’t know yet with which one, but I’ll see what I’m in the mood for then!
You feature some of my favorites! Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is probably in my Top 10 of all time, I LOVE that film so much. It was one of the first classics I ever saw and launched a huge Paul Newman phase for me, hahah. Hope you enjoy them all! 😀
Thanks for participating!
Thanks for organizing it, it’s a great challenge, one I really needed, since I am behind on my classics 🙂
