I watched “Snowpiercer” a couple of days ago on Netflix and I loved everything about it. It’s a dystopian film directed by Joon-Ho Bong where the last people on Earth survive on a constantly moving train.
Firstly, the acting was perfect and believable, considering the dystopian aspect of it. I especially enjoyed Tilda Swinton, Ko Asung (Yona) and Allison Pill (deliciously creepy). As expected, Chris Evans, Octavia Spencer, Jamie Bell and Ed Harris were amazing. I have to mention Evans’s monologue at the end of the movie, when he tells Namgoong the story of the first years in the train. It was so moving and well delivered. Also, fucked-up.
Second of all, the visuals of “Snowpiercer” were beautiful. From cinematography, to set design (for 20-30 completely different sections), to soundtrack and directing, everything about it was extremely well done and looked fantastic; I wished I could have seen it on the big screen. Special mention goes to the director who, not only directed and co-wrote this amazing script (the story is based on the French graphic novel “Le Transperceneige”), but also won Palme d’Or at this year’s festival with the movie Parasite (on my To Watch list).
Third, I have to talk about the story, because it’s definitely one of the strong points of this movie. “Snowpiercer” is about a future where a failed climate-change experiment has killed all life except for the lucky few who boarded the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe (thanks IMDB). It is sobering to see what people are capable of when you deprive them of basic needs such as food and comfort. It’s also interesting to see how social classes revolt, and more importantly, how it’s a cyclical process that happens time after time (our history shows it, and in the film we find out it happens every other 5 years or so). The idea of keeping alive humanity by cramming it in a 1-2 km long train is fascinating to me; so complex, but also bound to fail from the beginning. The whole movie is a class in psychology, mass manipulation, politics and many more.
I highly recommend “Snowpiercer”, it’s an interesting, action-packed movie, with great performances and a fantastic script.
They are making TV series based on this now, not surprising because the concept is indeed amazing. That monologue was probably the highlight of Evans’ career so far. I hated the movie the first time and liked it a lot when I rewatched it but I still hate that ending
Yes, Evans nailed that monologue. Why did you hate the ending? I thought it was a happy ending….one that gave hope…

I have our little blogging community for introducing this movie to me when it first came out. I really hope it gets a wider audience now it’s available on Netflix because it’s just so original, and weird!
Yup, agreed. I’ve heard about it for a long time, but only now getting to see it. It’s become quite a cult film, hasn’t it?
The whole movie is great but the end is SO intense. Plus, Chris with a beard is just… yes XD

This was my Blindspot movie! I mainly watched it because I saw a Youtube video about how it was basically a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory sequel 🙂 Which actually does make sense theme wise! I really enjoyed it though. Great cast and Evans should always have a beard!

I really loved Snowpiercer.. Then again, Chris Evans in a beard, and I probably just blank out, and drool the entire film, and in the end I’m like YAAAAS LOVED IT! Though like, no, in all honesty, it was one of my favourites of that year. An underrated gem for sure.

Awesome review! Despite how many people have seen and loved Snowpiercer, it still feels really underrated. It’s hard to pick out what was my favorite part about it. The cast, story, and direction was all great. I’m looking forward to seeing how it’s adapted as a show.
